As a Public Information Officer, I lead all communications efforts to elevate ongoing work that benefits and impacts the community, whether it is through media relations, pitching stories, coordinating interviews, facilitating information, processing public records requests, live streaming news conference, highlighting agency team members and their work through conducting interviews and capturing their work on video and photo, sharing vital information about incidents, programs, and initiatives via digital platforms, to the creation of newsletters and ongoing collaborations with government, nonprofit, community-based or faith-base organizations, and private sector partners. The below are only a few examples of my work showcasing some of these elements.

Authentic Storytelling

As the Public Information Officer for the Denver Agency for Human Rights & Community Partnerships, I oversee all communications efforts for its eight offices and ten commissions. The agency's Office of Financial Empowerment & Protection provides financial coaching and services to individuals and families living on or below the poverty line, helping them achieve their financial goals. This story, entirely produced by me, highlights the success of this program through a real story of a single mother becoming a first-time homeowner.

Highlighting Impactful Work

The Denver Agency for Human Rights & Community Partnerships also houses the Office for Immigrant & Refugee Affairs in Denver, one of the city's leading offices in the efforts to support newcomers during the current humanitarian crisis at the US Southern Border. The office's Language Access Program ensures that all city agencies provide meaningful access to all its residents regardless of English proficiency. The featured program facilitates free training and certifications to community members wishing to become professional language interpreters. For this video, I concentrated on the experience of recent program graduates to highlight the impact of a program like this in the community.

News Conferences

During my time at the Orlando Police Department and my current position at the Denver Agency for Human Rights & Community Partnerships, I have coordinated countless news conferences, from critical incidents to providing information about initiatives. The example seen here is reference a news conference held at the only open-air amphitheater built into a rock structure the world, Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre about recent updates increasing accessible seating for visitors living with a mobile disability by the agency's Division of Disability Rights. All local media outlets attended this conference.

EXAMPLE OF MEDIA COVERAGE

News Releases

As the Public Information Officer, I have been in charge of writing numerous briefings, talking points, and news releases for agency as well as for city leadership and partners. The news release showcased here informs the media and the community about recent funding to local nonprofit organizations, helping the sector recover from challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. These efforts were led by the agency's Office of Nonprofit Engagement.

Graphic Design

I create graphic content using Photoshop and Canva on a regular basis to highlight agency programs and initiatives. This example is a design created to promote a community survey by the agency's Denver LGBTQ Commission. The graphic, combined with my efforts that included the development of copy for social media platforms, newsletters, employee bulletin, the writing of a news release, and media pitches resulted in more nearly 2,500 responses from community members, exceeding the organizations' goal of 1,500.
