A Bit About Me

I am a multifaceted Public Information Officer with nearly ten years of experience in communications and a proven successful track record of increasing awareness, engagement, and collaboration. I believe that effective communication builds trust and strengthens relationships. With a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and French, as well as a graduate certificate in Emergency Management, and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice, I can incorporate a wide range of disciplines and skills to shape and deliver effectively vital information that impacts our communities, while increasing buy-in from community members and collaboration from stakeholders.

 

My professional experience includes news production, developing public relations and marketing campaigns, strategizing, managing crisis communication, creating branded materials, writing news releases, social media copy, newsletters, briefings, and talking points, managing digital assets, such as website and social media platforms, storytelling through videography and photography, and directing all media relations efforts.

City and County of Denver

Denver Agency for Human Rights & Community Partnerships

  • Serve as the main Public Information Officer and spokesperson for the agency reporting directly to the agency’s Executive Director and working in collaboration with other city agencies and the Denver Mayor’s Office, developing all news releases, statements, talking points, quotes, and managing all media relations while ensuring all messaging aligns with the agency’s vision, mission, and goals.

  • Develop, coordinate, and manage all public relations and marketing efforts, which include but are not limited to, amplifying awareness, calls to action, and collaborating with the Denver Mayor’s Office, Denver City Council, other city agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private sectors on various initiatives, programs, services, and events, while also managing all crisis communications. 

  • Oversee the workflow and communication initiatives by all 8 departments within the agency, as well as its 10 advisory commissions. The departments are the Denver Anti-Discrimination Office, Denver Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs, Denver Office on Aging, Denver Division of Disability Rights, Denver Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Denver Office of Financial Empowerment & Protection, Denver Office of Nonprofit Engagement, Denver Office of Storytelling. The 10 agency commissions advise the Mayor of the City on issues and initiatives concerning the communities they represent.

  • Develop and manage all social media and website content.

City of Orlando

Police Department

  • Served as the Public Information Officer for the Orlando Police Department, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and Chief of Police, while working in close collaboration with the City of Orlando’s Office of the Mayor.  

  • Developed the communication strategy, implemented, and coordinated the dissemination of information including the following areas: new initiatives, programs, policy changes, critical incident response, community outreach, criminal investigations, police internal investigation, etc.

  • Established and maintained partnerships with local, national, and international media, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and the private sector, to identify and/or create newsworthy stories, respond to, determine, and develop key talking points, and provide timely and accurate information.

NBC/Telemundo 31

  • Promoted from Office Manager to join the News Department Team. Built the foundation and workflow of the News Assignment Desk Department within the News Department, working directly with the Assistant News Director and the News Director.

  • Forged strong relationships and streamlined communication with various news contributors and stakeholders, including but not limited to, government public information officers, local community organizations, state and federal government agencies and organizations, private sector entities, elected officials, and partner media outlets.

  • Managed the workflow of a team of 15-20 reporters and photographers, providing research and guidance on daily news coverage, story angles, and developing the plan for future coverage.
